The Falkland Event ...

A Brief History

In the beginning...

The event started its life as "Freuchie Frolics". This was started by Liz Melville, as a fun day for local drivers and the event proved popular for the two years it was run. It consisted of mainly a chance to have a go at obstacles and gain experience as well as a place to meet friend but most importantly to have fun!!

The progression...

The initial event include two or three obstacles which were constructed in trees and the sand ménage as well as a small cones course. As the event matured into the "Falkland Event" which saw it evolve from a small fun day to the present day Scottish points qualifier. The event is set in the picturesque Howe of Fife and boasts a marathon that allows competitors to experience the full beauty of this part of Scotland. The scenic marathon with many view points of the Howe of Fife encompasses the grounds of Lathrisk estate and also of Falkland estate and that of various local land owners to comprise the three sections of the marathon phase.

The provision of a fulltime area for a dressage arena and the permanent construction of three of the usual six obstacles including a water splash, enable the organisers to successfully combine both challenging obstacles and a breath-taking marathon to create a memorable and truly enjoyable experience for both competitors and spectators.

The Event now...

The event will continue to run under the control of the Falkland Event Committee, for the foreseeable future. There will be continued development of a new route that can accommodate the juniors who compete as well as the maintenance of the longer marathon to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all those who take part.
