The Royal Burgh Of Falkland...

The Royal Burgh of Falkland is a quaint rural village set at the foot of the East Lomond Hill, with a population of about 1400. The village is famous for many things to name a few are the Falkland In Bloom organisation who so expertly deck out the village in national award winning floral displays year upon year.

2005 saw Falkland lift the regional title for Best kept village in Fife. The Best Kept Large Village in Scotland and the overall Best Village in Scotland and also gain entry to the finals for Britain in bloom 2006, where it is hoped that past successes can be built upon and the gold standard won, please visit there website Falkland in Bloom.

Falkland is also well know for its cricket team who in previous years have mirrored the successes achieved a close local village Freuchie, the cricket ground is set in Falkland Estate and is passed on the marathon route by competitors.

Falkland is very busy from the month of April through until September, on an almost daily basis there are coach loads of tourists who come to look at the palace, and the other sights that the village has to offer, increasing numbers of tourists now also come to look at the wonderful floral displays, and to shop in the many craft shops within the village.

Falkland Palace...

Falkland Palace has been a royal hunting ground since the Stuarts were the kings and queens of Scotland. Now in preservation and no longer used by the royal family the Palace has become the main tourist attraction within the village.

The palace has a very interesting history and is now kept by the National Trust for Scotland, it is open daily in the summer with several guided tours of the Palace and also the spectacular gardens available throughout the day for little extra cost. The palace is also famous for having one of the few intact and playable Royal Tennis courts in the country, there is an active club and a very interesting history behind the game.

The village is well appointed with services ranging from a healthy choice of eating places and pubs to a well stocked shop and post office, it is serviced by many bus routes to connect it with local towns and cities.
